On our second night in Sydney, we decided to try our luck at celebrity chef Luke Nguyen's Red Lantern. Unfortunately we were not so lucky this time. They were fully booked. Changed our plan and decided to go to Surry Hill again and randomly picked a restaurant. I remembered this Thai place with modern chic decor, dark walls and black chandeliers with red lamp shades from last night. It was fully packed and everyone seemed so happy and enjoyed their food.

Our destination was In The Mood For Thai. After a lovely afternoon at Taste of Sydney we needed to find something top quality to match our experience in Sydney so far.

It was late at night and the restaurant was quiet as there were only one or two tables with customers and the menu was small.  It was more like a fast chain cheap eat place rather a fancy restaurant as it's decoration indicates. I like the idea of the large open kitchen. Young Thai chefs working hard inside and the lousy sound from stir frying with large wok warm up the chilli night. The food was fresh and tasty. Way better than I expected be honest. The mixed entree starter came with spring rolls, curry puff, tod mun pa (homemade fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce), marinated chicken on skewer and chicken wing and all for only $8.9. Can't beat that price! It was cheap as chips and surprisingly quite delicious. I liked the fish cake and the chicken skewer was also not bad. Hubby loved the entree and it was flavoursome.

I ordered Mussels with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, Thai herbs and drizzle with chilli and lime dressing for main course. I loved it! The herbs smelt so good and the mussels were very fresh to eat. For only $16.90, I think that was very good price. I was happy about it and after finished the whole bowl, it left me no room for any other dishes.

Hubby ordered the Pad Thai King Prawns, a classic stir fried of thin rice noodle with king prawns, bean sprouts, tofu, shallot and onion. Again, fresh and beautifully cooked. DH even took away the left over back to the hotel.

We share the Hoi Sin Sauce with Beef which was hoi sin infused beef stir fried bean, broccoli and garnished, with fried onion. It was nicely presented and so as all their dishes. Their food were quiet large in portion. For $15, there were nothing to complain about.
We had a great evening.

Are you in the mood for Thai? Well, I am.

Step in Chanel

My mum had a custom made Hello Kitty marble tiles in her previous house and I thought that was silly. Not being a Hello Kitty fan myself, especially have it on my floor but I still think it's cute for girls under the age of 10.

May strongly disagreed by my mum and her crazy Kitty fans friends. haha...
I'd love to have Chanel tiles in my bathroom with No.5, Coco Mademoiselle, No.28 and all other Chanel perfume bottles display on shelves.
How great would that be!

Taste of Sydney II

Crispy Pork Belly, Cashew Nut Caramel, Watermelon & Mint $12 from Assiette & District Dining

Oysters with Vietnamese dressing, crispy shallots & coriander $10 from Assiette & District Dining

At the chef's Table was Alex Herbert from Bird Cow Fish. The dish she cooked was the Boned and rolled roasted chicken stuffed with mushroom duxelle; pommes puree. We tried the dish earlier, it was brilliant. Quite complicated dish and I can't image how she managed to prepare so many of them for the four days even. Love her food and I will definitely go to her restaurant when next time we visit Sydney.

At the Taste Kitchen that afternoon featured Penny Williams, Executive Chef, Bali Asli. While she's going to open up her own restaurant in Bali, that's a bit far away. However, she cooked a fresh and beautiful satay chicken that day and the sauce was amazing!

Black pepper and curry leaf prawn skewers with lime and fresh coconut $10 from Flying Fish

Mussels steamed with chilli, white wine, tomato and parsley $10 from A Tavola / Omerta

Part II

Four hours were definitely not enough to try all the fantastic dishes available but certainly a great food experience to taste some of Sydney's most incredible restaurants in one afternoon. Now I can't wait to go to Taste of Melbourne later of the year!
